We finally had our first reading for Roberta. I love readings they help me learn the lines and get into character! The play isn't anything like our script. For example, my character was a villian in the play and had very little screen time. Now I have more screen time and I am not a villian! Fred and Hermes already have ideas for our dances. Fred and I have a plan of stealing the movie with our dances so we are going to try really hard on this one! I love Fred to death, he is such a cutie! Anyway Irene (Dunne) has the lead. She is such a doll. Anyway I'll tell you more about my character. Her name is Comtesse Scharwenka. She is pretending to be a Countess when she really isn't one. She is also pretending to be Polish. It turns out she is American and she grew up with Fred's character. That's all for now. Lela and I are going out to eat tonight!

I just finished my last movie. It was alright but The Gay Divorcee was such a huge hit so RKO has decided that Fred and I will star in another movie! This time it will be from the broadway show Roberta. Irene Dunne has the lead so me and Fred are stuck as second banana roles again! Irene is nice though. She is the reigning queen of RKO. Well that's all for now! I must get my sleep I have to do some errands tomorrow!

We finally finished filming The Gay Divorcee I hope it does well at the box office. We will have to see though. The last scenes we did were our big dance and production number. The song is called "The Continental." It was actually a lot fun filming it. I learned the steps really easily. There is this cute number in the movie called "Let's K-nock K-nees" and this girl named Betty Grable sang it. I think the girl might have something. Well I start filming another movie called Romance in Manhattan. Sounds like any other movie I've done.

A picture from another scene. I think I look funny in this photo!

We finally started filming "The Gay Divorcee" and no offensive but I hate our director Mark Sandrich. He is always telling me to do this, not this! He thinks I can't act! I know I'm no oscar material but he didn't have to insult me like that! It seems that I can't do anything right! He feels that I shouldn't even be in this film! Fred and his pal Hermes Pan came up this really great dance for our new song "The Continental." Right now I am learning the steps and I am catching on quick.

We filmed this scene today. In this scene Fred sings "Night and Day" to me, and then we dance. Sadly this is the only Cole Porter song from the orignial stage version. I love this dress by the way.

Well Lela is cooking me dinner tonight so I must do my duty and eat. Good night!

I always get excited when a new year comes! I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Years! My mother Lela and I had our family come over for Christmas! It was wonderful seeing everyone again! I saw all my aunts and cousins and my Grandpa! We had a big dinner and exchanged presents! It was quite fun!

Well it turns out for our next movie The Gay Divorcee, they got rid of the whole Cole Porter score! What a shame! The only Cole Porter song that is staying in the movie is "Night and Day." They decided to have someone rewrite new songs!

It turns out the movie Fred and I are making is The Gay Divorcee! Actually it's really called The Gay Divorce and office code said the title had to be change because there is no such thing as a "Gay Divocre." Fred actually had the starring role in London. So he is very familair with the plot and music. Just think our very own musical with a Cole Porter score! Anyway here is the plot:

Mimi Glossop (my role) wants a divorce so her Aunt Hortense (Alice Brady) hires a professional to play the correspondent in apparent infidelity. American dancer Guy Holden (Fred) meets Mimi while visiting Brightbourne and she thinks he is the correspondent.

So it may not be the greatest plot but I think I am going to enjoy filming this one!

Well it turns out Flying Down to Rio was such a big hit that RKO is giving me and Fred our own movie! We are the stars! It's "our movie!" No more second banana roles! Anyway filming isn't due for a while and I am taking some time off. Actually they are working on the script right now as we speak! I think I am going to throw a Christmas party for my friends. I still don't know what to get Lela for Christmas. Maybe I'll get her some expansive perfume. She might like that! I just finished filming Upperworld and Twenty Million Sweethearts. I sure wish I had diffrent roles then these showgirl golddigger roles! Oh well! I should be gald I have the work and I do enjoy it most of the time! I went on another date with Lew Ayres. He is a very charming man! Well let's just say that he is my prince charming. The guy a girl dreams about. Love does silly things to you. I felt this same way when I married Jack. I can still remember my Lela giving her motherly advice to not marry him. Well I did and it turns out he was a drunk! I do think Lela likes Lew though. I hate it when we go out on dates we always have to hide. I guess it's the price of stardom. Well I going to stop writing. That was a quite a bit of info I wrote! Good-bye!

It's been a while since I have written in here and Flying Down to Rio has finished. It was just released and it's a huge success! I had a lot of fun filming with Fred! The director let us do our dance number. It's called The Carioca! I think the real reason the film is a huge success is in the big production number we had girls dancing and doing stunts on airplanes! Anyway here is a photo of me and Fred doing The Carioca!

Well we finally started filming "Flying Down to Rio." The whole cast is great! Fred finished filming with "Dancing Lady" with Joan Crawford. It's really great to finally work with him. I think Fred is really going to bring out the best in me! I hear director Thornton Freeland still wants to give us a dance number. Fred and I have second-banana roles! Oh well! It also turns out my character's name is Honey Hale. No offensive to the writers but I would love a non-dumb/blonde sassy name! Oh well! Anyway the movie plot is about an aviator and band leader Roger Bond (Raymond)who is forever getting his group fired for flirting with the lady guests. When he falls for Brazilian beauty Belinha de Rezende (del Rio) it appears to be for real, even though she is already engaged. His Yankee Clippers band is hired to open the new Hotel Atlantico in Rio and Roger offers to fly Belinha part way home. After a mechanical breakdown and forced landing, Roger is confident and makes his move, but Belinha plays hard to get. She can't seem to decide between Roger and her fiance Julio. When performing the airborne production number to mark the Hotel's opening, Julio gets some intriguing ideas... I don't think this movie will do that much for me. It is only for Del Rio and Raymond. Anyway here is a photo of me and Fred! The crew already started on costumes and publicity shots!

Fred is so handsome! He looks like a pro in this shot when this is going to be his second film!

I'm back at RKO! It's good to be home! Anyway it turns out my next picture is called "Flying Down to Rio." Delores del Rio is the star! The movie is also starring Gene Raymond. What I am really happy about is Fred is going to star in it! He is trying out his wings in Hollywood. It turns out Adele quit the act and got married to some British Lord! Fred had a big success in London with "The Gay Divorcee." Fred and I only have supporting roles but we still get film together! I am very excited to see him again. Right now he is filming some Joan Crawford flick at MGM! Well Gold Diggers is a huge success! I am sad that my one of my songs was cut! it was that Torch song that was cut! During "We're in the Money" I sing in Pig latin, Busby Berkeley included it in the film after hearing me improvising the song at the piano during rehearsal.
I am finally getting that big break here that I have been wanting!

I got the role in Warner Bros. next big musical! It is called "Gold Diggers of 1933" I am very excited! Almost the whole crew from "42nd Street" is back too. Joan Blondell is going to be in this movie too. My character's name is Fay Fortune. I get to sing my own songs too. One of them is called "We're in the Money." What a perfect title for a song in a movie called gold diggers? The other one is called "I've Got to Sing a Torch Song." Filming is beginning next week. My cousin Phyllis Fraser is coming to Hollywood. I told my aunt that I think she would be perfect for the movies. She has that certain face. I told her aunt that she could stay with Lela and I. We got a new apartment and its quite lovely! I cannot wait for Phyllis to come. She is like my little sister! Lately I have been seeing this guy named Lew Ayres. He is a pretty well know actor. He is very handsome and I can't stop thinking of him. We went on a date a couple of days ago. We went out to this little resturant and it was very romantic. Lela even likes him. Lela hated my first husband Jack. He had a very bad drinking problem I thought I could stop. Anyway I don't like to talk about Jack. He is still like a wound. Anyway here is a photo of me and Joan. I found it in a magazine. I love being a blonde again!

I haven't written in here for a while. "42nd Street" finally wrapped up, well at least my part for filming has finished. Warner Bros. is now considering using me for their next big musical. I don't remember the title but its something about gold diggers or something! So everyone keep their fingers crossed! Also everyone see "42nd Street" when it comes out! I think the movie turned out really well. Anyway my next movie is "Broadway Bad." I am being paired with Joan Blondell. I play her best friend and the movie is about Joan's character who is going through a divorce and she is trying to get custody of her son. Yeah it sounds like a lame movie but I get to work with Joan, something I have been dying to do! Good night!

I am having the best day yet! Today I was offered the role of Anytime Ann in 42nd Street! Warner Bros. is going to film it soon and they asked me to try out for the role! Well I got it! I cannot wait to start! This might be the big break in Hollywood I need! We have a great cast too! The cast includes:

Warner Baxter .... Julian Marsh
Bebe Daniels .... Dorothy 'Dot' Brock
George Brent .... Pat Denning
Ruby Keeler .... Peggy Sawyer
Guy Kibbee .... Abner Dillon
Una Merkel .... Lorraine 'Lolly' Fleming

I cannot wait to get started! I may not have the lead but I have a good supporting role and I get to sing! I have to share my excitement! Good-bye!

Lela and I finally arrived in Hollywood. We had a lovely train ride. Anyway we rented an apartment at the Garden of Allah. It's a small place but I think it will suit us fine for the time being. It turned out my screen test went really well so I signed a contract with RKO Studios. I can't wait to get started. My first project is "Honor Among Lover." It is a supporting role but a strong one! It turns out Claudette will be back! It will be nice to work with her again. She has the leading role and her leading man is Fredric March. I am really looking forward to working! Well I need my rest so I'll stop right here.

"Girl Crazy" finally came to an end, it was fun while it lasted and it was a huge success. I am kinda tired of working on the stage so they offered me a screen test out in Hollywood. I decided to take it. Lela is coming with me. She got the train tickets and we are leaving New York tomorrow. I am very sad to leave New York but I need a new change. Hopefully things will turn out well in Hollywood!

I just got back from my date with Fred Astaire. I had a lovely time. Fred picked me up and waited for me after I was done with the show. We went to this nice little resturant. They had some lovely food. I got some kind of Italian dish. Anyway me and Fred talked about everything. He talked a lot about his lovely sister Adele and their act. She seems like a very sweet person. He also talked about the show there in too. After we finished our dinner, we danced to the music in the resturant. I must say Fred dances quite lovely! Even this guy made a comment about our lovely dancing! It was past midnight and we decided to call it a night and we went through Central Park too, since I live near it. We said our goodbyes and Lela wanted to know how the date went and I had a lovely time. There just seemed to be no love sparks between us, but Fred is really nice and I wish him the best!

It's been a while since I have written in here, "Girl Crazy" finally made it's debut. Luckily it is a great success. I get along great with the whole cast, especially with Ethel Merman. She cracks me up. Anyway I just recieved a phone call from that Fred Astaire guy. Lela answered it and I asked who it was and she said it was this Fred Astaire guy and he said I would know who you were! I was quite shocked! I didn't think I would ever see him again. Anyway we talk on the phone and he wants to get me out to dinner and go out dancing. I galdy said yes for any day but Wednesday since everyone on Broadway has to do two shows! We finally picked Thursday and he is going to wait for me after the show. I must admit I am quite excited to go on our date. It's always fun to go out and have some fun. Fred seems like a very sweet guy too! Can't wait for the big night!

Of course I had to enter a picture of me and Allen Kerns. By the way I play a mail girl!

What a day of work! I finally finshed filming "Young Man of Manhattan." I had a lot of fun filming it too. I got to work with Claudette Colbert and Norman Foster. I even took a picture with the director Monta Bell. Lately Girl Crazy been keeping me busy. This guy named Fred Astaire and stopped by and helped with a number. He was kinda cute and he was a great help to the number. I am very tired and I think I'll rest up! Lela thinks I should! (Lela is my best friend and mother)

I've been thinking of chaning my hair color back to my natural blonde color? What do you think?

Here I am with Monta Bell! We are fooling around in this picture!
